What's coming to Free My ID

What the app does today, and what we're building next, in plain words.

We'll ship these when they're ready and tested. We don't promise dates, and plans can change.

A magnifying glass over a web page, finding a person's listing.

Now: the Windows app

Available now, version 0.1

Free My ID for Windows 10 and 11 asks the people-search and data-broker sites that list your name, address and phone number to remove them, then keeps checking.

  • A one-click installer and a short setup, with practice mode on until you say go.
  • Three ways of sending requests: by email, step by step with you, or, on some sites, by filling in the form for you.
  • Daily re-checks in the background, and a printable progress report.

Next: Linux, Mac and home servers

Coming in version 0.2

The same app, for people who use Linux or a Mac, or who want it to run on a small home server. This version is mostly for technical users and works from the command line.

Then: see where you're listed, and get proof

Planned for version 0.3

A "find me first" check

Before anything is sent, see which sites list you, with a simple score that shows what makes you easy to find. Then decide what to remove.

Letters that name your state's privacy law

If your state has a privacy law that covers these sites, Free My ID will write the request with that law named in it. In other states, it sends a polite request, which many sites still honor.

A proof report

One printable page that shows each site that was asked, the date, what it answered, and when it was checked again. Useful if you're helping a parent.

A progress report with checked rows and a star seal.

Later: for the whole family

Planned for version 0.4

  • Family profiles: several people in one app, each one giving their own consent.
  • Helper mode: a son, daughter or grandchild can prepare the setup for a parent, and the parent just opens it to finish.
A grown child and a parent sharing one laptop with two name cards.

What won't change

  • Free stays free. The free app is not a trial.
  • Your details stay with you. They are kept on your computer and go only to the sites you ask to remove you.
  • No account. You won't need to sign up anywhere to use it or to talk to us.
