How to remove yourself from Spokeo
Spokeo is a people-search site. Sites like this build listings from public records and purchased data, often with your address, age, phone number and relatives. Here's how to ask it to remove you, for free. You don't need Free My ID to do this.
What you'll need
- The web address of your listing on Spokeo (you find it by searching for yourself)
- An email address for removals (a separate one just for this is best)
- Opening the email Spokeo sends and clicking its link. If you skip this, the request may not go through.
Step by step
-
Search for yourself on Spokeo and open your listing.
-
Copy the web address of that listing from the top of your browser.
-
Go to the opt-out page. Paste the web address and type your removal email.
-
Press the button to send.
-
Open the email Spokeo sends you and click its link.
Allow about 3 days, then check again.
Opens www.spokeo.com, Spokeo's own website.
The Spokeo removal is also meant to cover: FreePeopleDirectory.
Or let Free My ID do it
Free My ID opens Spokeo's removal page in your own browser, with these steps beside it and a Copy button for each box. On sites that allow it, it can fill the boxes in while you watch. You tick any "I'm not a robot" box yourself. Then it checks again later, because sites can list people again.
