How to remove yourself from California DROP
California DROP is a free website run by the State of California. One request there reaches 600+ registered data brokers. It is only for people who live in California. Here's how to ask it to remove you, for free. You don't need Free My ID to do this.
What you'll need
- Your name, as it shows on the listing
- The street address that shows on your listing
- Your city
- Your state
- Your ZIP code
- Your date of birth
- An email address for removals (a separate one just for this is best)
- Opening the email California DROP sends and clicking its link. If you skip this, the request may not go through.
Step by step
-
Only for people who live in California. Open the DROP web address.
-
Prove who you are with the State of California sign-in. You do this yourself.
-
Make a profile with only the details you choose to share.
-
Send one deletion request. It reaches 600+ registered data brokers and is free.
-
Come back in about 3 months to see the results.
Allow about 90 days, then check again.
Open California DROP's removal page
Opens consumer.drop.privacy.ca.gov, California DROP's own website.
Or let Free My ID do it
This one needs you to sign in or make an account, which Free My ID never does for you. It gives you a reminder with the link and these steps, and keeps track. Then it checks again later, because sites can list people again.
